Case Studies and Testimonials

David Dahm, Alicia Milne

I would like to thank David and the staff at Health and Life for allowing me to partake in this unique opportunity to work as a marketing intern as part of the University of South Australia’s 30 day internship program. Initially, I had no idea what to expect when I started at Health and Life. I was quite nervous as I had not worked in an office environment before, however, all of the staff were very welcoming, easy to talk to and easy to work with, which made the experience that much easier.

David personally showed me how to use popular marketing programs that allowed me to create content as well as look at the data analytics used to track website activities. Over the course of the semester I was able to put together two video campaigns, both of which I am very proud of (click here to view my internship promotional video). By creating these videos and using these programs, I have gained a lot of confidence in the fact that I can have a successful career in marketing as it allowed me to develop my technical and creative skills. I was also able to sit in on meetings with David and his clients which gave me an insight into what professional business meetings are really like. I am very grateful that David allowed me to gain these experiences and that he took the time out of his busy schedule to mentor me along the way.

Overall, this internship has been extremely rewarding, and I am very grateful to have been involved with Health and Life. I can honestly say I have developed both personally and professionally over the past 3 months, and as a bonus, I have gained a great insight into the accounting profession as well as the medical profession.

A story of a successful intern

Jonathan Markey December 2018

Jonathan Markey was  offered an internship. He did so well we was also offered  a job after his internship with us. He went on to become a national 30 under 30 Innovation Finalist in the 2019 Accountant Daily Awards . The University of SA invited him to speak on his experience at Health and Life to 170 employers.

Here are some more testimonials from past interns about their experience at Health and Life

Having an internship at Health and Life is the best decision that I have ever made. It has given me the unique opportunity to see so much more about the Accounting field than I am able to learn in the classroom. One of the things that I have valued most about my internship is the nice and supportive working environment where I received constant guidance and encouragement from David and his team (Mark, Greg and Christian) and other interns (Sahil, Tai and Dave). Also, I have gained valuable experience from the site visit to Mawson Lakes Medical Centre and it helped me to understand more about the project that we have done. Overall, the internship was a worthwhile experience and I feel that it has prepared me well for my professional career.

It has been a pleasure and a journey working at Health and Life as part of the University of South Australia 30-day Internship Program. The experience was truly extraordinary, and I was also extremely grateful for the opportunity to work alongside the company CEO and Founder, David Dahm, and his staff (Mark, Greg, and Christian). The accounting interns (Sahil, Tricia, Dave and I) have a chance to work on the EAR Project in establishing a COVID Clinic. Throughout the process, we have completed the XERO and FATHOM certification and applied that knowledge to the project in forecasting the viability of the clinic. After the project, I have learnt that Accounting is not simply numbers and formulas, but the underneath context and the logic behind each number are the true beauty of Accounting because it may influence not just the organisation but for the whole society. Therefore, the placement was an educational journey of “Good to Great”, so THANK YOU, Health and Life team and the fellow team members for the time, the knowledge and the support you gave.

My internship experience at Health and Life has been a rollercoaster. From leading the team of interns to the complexity of the project (EAR project), I often felt overwhelmed by the internship experience. But with the supervision of David and the support of Health and Life staff (Greg, Christian, and Mark) and other accounting interns (Dave, Tricia, and Tai), I can proudly say that I was able to manage it pretty well. Furthermore, having previously interned at an accounting firm, I can honestly state that my internship experience at Health and Life has surpassed my expectations, as creating a business model at an accounting firm is not something you get to do every day. To sum up, I am grateful to Health and Life for providing me with this opportunity, and I am excited to see where this adventure takes me.

Thank you, David, Mark, Greg and Christian, for supporting my wonderful journey in the 30 days internship course. I am so thankful for this opportunity as it allows me to develop a business plan for the COVID19 vaccination clinic (the EAR Project). The internship in Health and Life is more than working in a typical accounting firm; I can challenge myself to different aspects of the business. Throughout the internship, I gained deeper insight into the healthcare and accounting industry which have helped me significantly with my career planning. I grew so much personally and professionally from David’s experience of running a successful business. Thank you, David and his team, for the consistent support and mentor. It has been a great experience working with Health and Life staff and other interns (Tai, Tricia, and Sahil).

My 30 days business internship (as part of the University of South Australia program) at Health and Life had came to an end.

It was a truly wonderful experience while working along with the CEO and Founder David Dahm and his staff (Deanna, Mark, Christian, Ashley and Gene). I had not only learnt about accounting softwares but on other aspects on how the organisation ran. David is really passionate on the healthcare industry. I can foresee that Health and Life will be growing in future years and all the best to David and his team!

I would like to personally thank them for their support and guidance as they took their time off from their busy calendar schedule.

Time to embark on a new journey with another internship in July!

Overall my internship experience was excellent and definitely managed to exceed my expectations. David took a real personal interest in both myself and Harry, checking in on how we were handling everything, including us in meetings and really took the time to act as a mentor. The whole team at Health & Life was super approachable, everyone was happy to help, explaining concepts that were unclear and answering any questions. The tasks themselves were quite varied, providing the opportunity to gain exposure to a range of different programs and tools. You get to use tools such as fathom and wrike which are pretty cool! Trying to think of some criticisms of my experience has been really difficult as I can honestly say I really enjoyed my time at Health & Life. There are some tasks you do which might seem a bit tedious or not the most exciting, but even these end up being valuable learning experiences as David and the team will take the time to give context to the work. I learned so much during my internship experience, it has been a great opportunity and I am so grateful to the whole team at Health & Life.

I am happy with most of the tasks that I have done during the internship, particularly establishing a comprehensive chart of accounts for the IHSEB project. In addition to that task, I have obtained Xero Advisor Certified in the first few days of the internship by completing  the Xero Online Training Module, which can enhance my ability to navigate and use Xero for further tasks of the internship. By completing this internship, I am confident in using multiple online software such as Google Sheets, Wrike, Fathom and Adobe PDF. Although a couple of tasks are not accounting-related, the overall tasks can boost my both technical skills and soft skills. I really appreciate this internship opportunity!
